Moving an entire embassy through the centre of Rome

In another display of flexibility and professionalism, the Italian team successfully relocated entire wings of the Indian embassy to an old building in the centre of Rome. This project required solid planning and was carried out over a period of two and a half months.

Several people from different departments needed to be relocated, but they all wanted to resume work as soon as possible. On top of that, the movers could only access the city centre within a limited timeframe. 'We divided this big project into several smaller ones so we could tailor to the embassy's needs,' explains Country Representative Barbara Savelli. 'That way, we could optimise operating times. We were in daily contact with the project manager of the Indian embassy, and thanks to Andrea's efficient work on the operational side and Daniele's efficient planning, everything went smoothly.'

Apart from the tailored approach and accessibility issues in Rome, there was also a large safe weighing over 800 kg that had to be moved. The team commissioned an engineer to calculate the weight distribution for a support frame to protect the antique pavement, and lifted the safe through the roof using a large crane. ‘These types of projects demand a lot of attention and flexibility, but the timing was right,’ Barbara adds. ‘During peak season, my teams are fully booked and we can’t always say yes to requests like these. But now we had the capacity and the feedback was extremely positive!”
