Moving the ‘mushroom man’

Mushroom man

We’ve received many quotes at Gosselin throughout the years, but the request to move over 12.000 mushroom samples was a new one. Dr. Henry Beker not only needed his herbarium moved from Brussels to the UK, but also his book collection (over 3000 books) on mycology (the study of mushrooms), together with some antique furniture. This more than 86 cubic meters move got a real Gosselin door to door VIP service.

The herbarium consisted of two large chests of drawers containing mushroom samples, all labeled with their Latin names. “The challenge was that everything had to stay in the exact right order”, Sales Executive, Steven Molloy, explains. “A specialist carpenter came to dismantle the cabinets with 84 drawers that were then reassembled on the truck itself to avoid mixing them up during transport.”

Herbarium

Mr. Beker had to apply for a special permit for this move. It’s not allowed to import plants into the UK to prevent the spread of diseases but fungi are not plants and different rules apply. Dr. Beker is an expert having named many species new to science; he was granted individual permission for his move. “It took us four days only for the disassembling and reassembling of the herbarium and we had three movers on site both in Belgium as in Windsor to make sure everything went smoothly”, Move Manager Dominique Dedeurwaerder, says.

And smoothly it went! Resulting in a satisfied customer. “I considered Gosselin for the move as they were the ones to relocate me from the UK to Belgium twenty-one years ago”, Dr. Beker adds. “I spoke to Steven and he had excellent ideas to make this move a success. Everything went very well. The guys were brilliant and very careful with everything. A joy to be with!”

Operations Moving

Gosselin Belgium receives FIDI Top Performer status

After the Italian and UK office receiving the FAIM 22 Top Performer status, it was Belgium’s turn for a FIDI audit. With Belgium not only having multiple offices in Deurne and Vilvoorde, but also their own warehouses and rolling stock, the audit was extensive but successful nevertheless.
International work experience

An international work experience

With Gosselin offices all over Europe, it’s almost impossible to know everybody. However, an international working experience can be the perfect way to get acquainted with colleagues from different countries. Roberta and Patrizio from the Italian office did just that, taking the opportunity to network and brainstorm work processes.
Road VS Rail transport

European Logistics goes Multi-modal!

Gosselin currently launched a new trial project combining the usual road transport with train groupage in Europe. It is the perfect combination between handling large volumes, less reloads, less damage risks, and focusing on sustainability at the same time.
