The Silk Road, a route of collaborations

The Silk Road: Contemporary Art and Artists from Italy is an exhibition that travels the ancient trading route connecting China with the West. With offices located along the entire Silk Road area from the Caucasus and Central-Asia to Europe, Gosselin has shown it is the perfect partner for this project.

An art move of 30 cubic meters that needs to be transported is a challenge on its own, but this particular move had to be shipped via air freight. “The route itself presented many risks, and the cargo was heavily insured,” John Braeckeveldt, Regional Manager for the Caucasus explains. “In addition, the different customs procedures were complex and comprehensive, so we opted for air freight instead of road transport.”

All 37 extremely valuable artworks including paintings, installations, and sculptures were carefully packed in cooperation with the museum and then sealed with wax seals. “Gosselin has a good reputation for moves like this,” John adds. “We have the know-how, our own customs bonded warehouses with 24/7 security, and offices along the entire Silk Road.” This whole project is a beautiful example of in-house collaboration, with several different Gosselin offices working together to get the job done.

As of this writing, the art exhibition is currently on display at the Georgian National History Museum in Tbilisi. The exhibition presents a panorama of extraordinary contemporary Italian art from 38 different artists, from the late 1960s to the present day. It will eventually end up in China.
